I am the first to admit that I too suffer from the "I can't do that, be that or have that" mentality....and I have to keep asking myself "why not?" This is something I learned from my brief time spent with a life coach a few years ago Cathy Yost, a wonderful, gutsy, happy, beautiful woman...when I told her I couldn't do something or other and she asked me Why not?" It stopped me in my tracks...and I suddenly realized I was stopping myself from living the life I wanted all because I kept telling myself I couldn't.....what would people think, what would happen if I did, what if I were successful & happy...oh my! That is a scary notion to a lot if us, the thought of actually being happy living the life we have designed for ourselves...one that doesn't fit anyone's version of life but our own dream of how we want our lives to be.
I could go on forever with this topic but I will keep it short-ish and get to the point:
Why can't you wear the clothing you want to wear.....even here in Alberta? YES, Alberta...where the conservatism permeates most of our lives and we don't dare to dress how we see "those" people in magazines or movies dressing. Why can't we? I say we CAN! Here are some of the excuses I have heard since having my shop here:
1. "We have winter".....yes we DO but who says we can't wear beautiful long skirts 8 months out of the year at the very least?
2. "I never see anyone wearing these clothes".....maybe you're travelling in the wrong circles or maybe who cares what others are wearing? Change YOUR attitude about it.....dress how you WANT...don't shy away from looking like a woman and wearing romantic clothing and dresses and skirts!
3. "I can't wear that to work".....yes you CAN if you incorporate an item or two with your business wardrobe....and don't forget: you have a life outside of work, one that will change and grow as you allow yourself to really live it!
I mentioned a few months ago how I had rediscovered the art of wearing
skirts...and I have enjoyed how I feel when wearing them more often than
I had been. Sure, I get to dress up a bit
more because I work in my shop where I sell the clothing that goes with
the lifestyle I dream of.....but I would dress this way even if I didn't have a store....because I love clothing and I love how beautiful clothing makes me feel.
So don't tell yourself "but I can't!" because you CAN! Let's all start dressing better....fewer yoga pants, more skirts. More lace, more duster coats, more dresses, more ruffled what-evers....! You might not be living in Tuscany or France but at least you will be wearing the kind of clothing you have dreamed of wearing, no?

I used to use all kinds of excuses for not dressing the way I wanted. I know all about the it's too cold, and nobody else dresses like this! Now I wear lace and lots of layers, and yes, sometimes I get looks when I go to walmart, but at this point in my life I don't care!
Life is too short not to please yourself in how you dress!
